Hi all!

I'm doing some research about some land in Maine, specifically, the Massabesic Experimental Forest in Lyman, and from eyewitness accounts, many people talk about seeing a man dressed in WW2 attire with a weapon just living out in the woods. This isn't the first time our state has had hermits hiding in the bush, so I was wondering if we have another case like that, or if he's even real at all.

So any info, stories or articles online, would be very helpful, as I've hit a brick wall. Thanks again!

Well, there was the North Pond Hermit who lived in the woods for 20+ years up in the Belgrade Lakes. He would break into camps when people were away and take canned food and batteries and books.

My Dad hikes out there regularly, he says he hasn't heard or seen anything like that but maybe the hermit has some good camo?

Hey, do you have anything In specific article wise?? I’ve been doing lots of research about the Bangor area, specifically with a 1895 “Wild man” encounter with Lumberjacks logging up there, so any more info about people up there would be great!

When I spent a summer doing trail work in Grafton Notch (like 20 years ago), there was a hermit living there in the woods who claimed that the land the state park is on rightfully belonged to him. He was the nemesis of the park rangers.

Sometimes he would vandalize park infrastructure or send them threatening letters. They were always searching for his campsites and would destroy them when they found one, but he would just move to another one. The rangers said he had been there for years and years. No idea if he’s still there.
