The charger broke off inside of the port, so I bought a new charger. That didn’t work, then I realized that the port broke, too, so I replaced the port. This still didn’t work. When I plugged the new charger into the port, the charging light would turn on for a moment then turn back off. At this point I don’t know what’s wrong with it.

Sounds like it’s time to just buy a new laptop.

Eh, I hope I not. They’re wicked expensive.

They don’t have to be.
If the power socket is broken off of the motherboard it’s basically not fixable.

If it’s not under warranty from Dell, probably toast. A local repair place isn’t likely to be able to repair unless it’s a simple solder, and certainly won’t have a board replacement.

did you replace it with a dell oem charger, or a generic universal?
dells have proprietary circuitry in their bricks so only oem will charge correctly.

Why... wouldn't it be fixable? Haha. You can just unsolder the socket and put a new one in (costs like 10 dollars for a cheap soldering kit that can do the job).

I asked chatGPT for you ((Edit: chatGPT will also walk you through a lot of stuff if you ask it, it's really good with help like this.... though it isn't perfect, so use common sense too and ask for clarification and stuff)).
There are a few potential causes for the issue you are experiencing after replacing the charging port in your laptop. Here are a few things you can check:
- Check the power adapter: It is possible that the power adapter is not working properly or the connector is not properly plugged in. Try using a different power adapter to see if the issue persists.
- Check the charging cable: The charging cable could be damaged, or the connection between the cable and the charging port might not be secure. Try using a different charging cable to see if this solves the issue.
- Check the charging port: It is possible that the new charging port you installed is faulty or not properly connected to the motherboard. Double-check that all the connections are properly secured and that the port is functioning properly.
- Check the battery: The battery could be damaged or not properly connected. Check the battery to make sure it is properly inserted and secured. You can also try removing the battery and plugging in the laptop to see if it turns on with just the power adapter.
- Check for other hardware issues: There could be other hardware issues with the laptop that are preventing it from charging properly, such as a faulty motherboard or power management system. If none of the above solutions work, it may be necessary to take the laptop to a professional for further diagnosis and repair.
In summary, check the power adapter, charging cable, charging port, battery, and other hardware issues to determine the cause of the problem.
