i've heard these metal housings on cables aren't actually that good and can fall off, can anyone correct me on this? i really love the look of metal housings but idk

It depends what type, and how they are fitted. You also need to lock the USB connector in with glue, so how good it is depends on who made the cable and what they used. I use 2 part epoxy. mine are effectively solid state. I've seen others that just use some cheap glue, so it very much depends on who makes the cable.

They are usually fixed with a small indent/pin and a screw holding onto the cable sleeve. Not very secure just as that. Add some 2K epoxy filling onto all that and it's never ever going anywhere
