To kick things off - I'm 30 something, born and raised in London and mostly I jam heavy rock/metal, Indie, Hip Hop & Grime, and Pop House. I've been lucky enough to learn an instrument, play live gigs, work in a recording studio helping to produce/mix songs and I really, really cannot get enough of music in every and any sense.

My fave new to me artists:

Heavy

That whole record label seems to be reliable

Will let you know what I think! Always nice to find a label you like too, it's a different way to find artists in my experience. Thanks!

Found this guy a while back. His name's Andrew Milner and his style is...interesting: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6k63x71jmFOBQsWdyPb91j?si=EJsdGRcUTZG5CDZ6-yGCdg&utm_source=copy-link

Most releases are in the punk and rock genres but he also released like a...chill type album? Sort of sounds similar to Enya or Vangelis.

I kinda dig the style though, as a punk and metal fan myself (think Rise Against, Blink-182, a whole lotta Queen, Led Zeppelin, 80s rock, etc.) some songs kinda remind me of like a mash-up of certain elements from those bands.

Look forward to checking him out. Your genre comments are intriguing too, I love a mash up/blend of genres and styles. Cheers!

Don't mention it. Honestly, his whole Moods And Feelings album is actually pretty neat. Especially Artist Thoughts. But I'd honestly give the whole album a spin because the styles of the songs are quite different from one another.

Will be sure to! Nice to have an extra reason/a focus when dipping into a new record also.

Death's Dynamic Shroud

they make really weird crazy electronic music like nothing I've ever heard it sounds like it was made in the year 2077, it's like an outer space acid trip

Jockstrap

a prime example of music that tickles that little part of my brain, their music is so sonically pleasing in every way I just can't get enough of the vocals, the production, the lyrics - everything

Viagra Boys

their lyrics are hilarious, and they make great punk rock bops, sometimes they can kind of go off the deep end in songs like "Creep Crawlers" where their lead singer plays the part of an anti vaxxer conspiracy theorist who thinks the billionaires are harvesting children to make adrenochrome, but in general I like them

JID

I love his latest album 'The Forever Story', I don't think a single song missed for me on it, I've really got to listen to more of his discography because before I listened to TFS I really thought trap was trash

Black Midi

They make a lot of really narratively driven heavy art rock, it can be loud and cacophonous or really smooth and low key, I especially liked their latest album 'Hellfire', they remind me of King Crimson

Soul Glo

Soul Glo launches a full frontal assault on all my senses every time I listen to them and for some reason I enjoy it

Many thanks for your suggestions and your write ups, great stuff. I've got at least one liked track by Midi so excited to learn more. Very curious to hear about anyone making anything electronic that sounds futuristic too!

Not necessarily furturistic, but Aphex Twin, Burial and DJ Shadow are all awesome electronic artists.

Only today I got into Freeway (real name Leslie Pridgen) (https://open.spotify.com/artist/2Jwr7hGoSNK3S3QBxh3T0z?si=V_aK6axORGG9Yrc8rajJ3Q), one of the most prominent rappers in Philadelphia’s hip-hop scene. It just came out of the blue, but I know he is associated with Jay-Z due to being signed by the latter’s label Roc-A-Fella. I thought that Freeway’s debut album Philadelphia Freeway would be an interesting one, and I listened to it three times today. I loved the album at first listen, it effectively mixes between upbeat and energetic (Flipside) to serious and reflective (What We Do).
