When I was a kid, Jewel had a song called "Amen" and the end of the third verse (no bridge) is "Some are being beaten, some are being born, and some can't tell the difference anymore." It reminded me of how it felt being in high school where everyone enjoyed picking on me or complaining about me -- as I became more angsty, even non-bullies found me annoying and I just couldn't bring myself to be the well-liked person I was my entire youth. So I thought I was the only one who people couldn't stand and suddenly I felt like it was a universal feeling and not exclusive to me.
