I thought I read somewhere, this was from a movie. The soldier crouching looks like Mark Miller the actor.

Not fighting in uniform… a clear violation of the Geneva Conventions. That meant the plainclothes guy was commonly executed if captured.

I'm pretty sure it was. It might have depended on an individuals training though. A Pathfinder taught me. I couldn't even handle a toy gun "unsafely" without hearing about.

"The Gen. Greats" I knew didn't play games with weapons. Most Gen X that know handle them properly. I think that Gen-Next/ Millennials were the first generation to have "fear of weapons" crap instilled in them directly via toy marketing and news.

I think this has really just led to kids becoming adults having not just zero weapons training; but no real understanding of how powerful one is. "I must not think bad thoughts"(X)

This reminded me of my grandfather, who worked with Italian partisans. I can only hope they looked so dashing.

Yea, that and the fact the photographer is standing in the open while everyone else is supposedly taking cover.

Now to mention the terrible trigger control they exhibit. I would not be at all surprised if this was a PR still from a movie.

Correct. That would be the fourth Geneva Conventions that would outline treatment of non-uniformed combatants. I was holding them to a higher standard than I should have. The term partisan was thrown a lot during the war and the use of non uniformed combatants was usually met as a sign of underhanded warfare and partisans were usually executed on site. The fourth Geneva Conventions have been troublesome in regards to combatants in informal attire and treatment of prisoners of war since then.

Do you know what perfidy is ? I only found out this week that what some of the Russians had done ( surrendering and then resuming fighting under a white flag ) was a war crime. Sounded like very poor sportsmanship but didn’t know it was a war crime. It makes sense though. A few Russians have now made it very difficult to surrender at all but the Ukrainians seam to hold themselves to a higher standard. ✌️

It is a great picture but surely not a real firefight. That said I love the idea that the gendarme are just watching, trying to decide if this is a crime or a war. "You murdered that man!" "I did not, I killed him in a totally legitimate war" "What is le difference?" "Complicated..."

The officer has a low rank. Due to the nice condition of his boots/uniform, and the poor trigger discipline, I would say that he is not an experienced combat officer.
