It is possible the body of the can was tin plated steel with an aluminum top. But cans have almost always been made of aluminum.

Aluminum cans came out in the late 60s. They were steel before that like this one. You opened them with a “ church key” as they were called

If he had lived long enough to witness it, I think Zappa would've been deeply intrigued by the way Dew has morphed from commercialized moonshine mix to a kaleidoscopic neon rainbow of absurd flavors and colors tied to myriad subcultures.
