It is possible the body of the can was tin plated steel with an aluminum top. But cans have almost always been made of aluminum.

That’s from a 1968 photo shoot he did at a landfill.
Brings back memories of one of his classics “Why Does It Hurt When I Pee”.
He truly was ahead of his time.

Aluminum cans came out in the late 60s. They were steel before that like this one. You opened them with a “ church key” as they were called

He's arguably one of the greatest American composers of all time.

Ok so does it have a flip top or do you open it like a can of beans?

Damn, I never even heard of Mountain Dew until like 1980
bathwatershotglass t1_iu5bg15 wrote
If he had lived long enough to witness it, I think Zappa would've been deeply intrigued by the way Dew has morphed from commercialized moonshine mix to a kaleidoscopic neon rainbow of absurd flavors and colors tied to myriad subcultures.

I need to sterilize them. Give me your lighter.

He wasn't shilling. It was a piece of garbage he picked up at a landfill during a photoshoot

If you knew anything about Zappa you'd know the last thing he'd have done is shill soda.

I remember being bitterly disappointed in 1975 when I couldn't take my Shasta cans in for money because they were steel, not aluminum.
