The guy on the left is obviously their roadie, but he looks like he's related to Lee. Fun fact they replaced derf with Flea, who soon fled indeed to join the red hot chili peppers

And

Now

You

Know

The rest

Of

The story

Saw them play at Vans Warped Tour 2001 Ventura California. Lee Ving invited one of their old bassist to play the set, Flea - Flea came on set and Lee screams into the mic, "and you thought I was fuckin' with ya" the crowed goes erupts into a big mosh pit, I got to meet Lee Ving after the set, was one of the best concerts I ever attended.

I saw them at the Whisky a Go Go before they appeared on SNL. KROQ was playing "New York’s Alright If You Like Saxophones" and "I Don't Care About You" in heavy rotation.

I was expecting Lee Ving to be a typical punk singer, but I was blown away by how good he was. Early in the set they played some kind of jazz-style song and I realized the guy had some amazing vocal skills. One of the last songs they did was Hank Williams was Queer, which got the crowd laughing and riled up.

Fucking great show.

Lee Ving is also a fantastic character actor in a bunch of 80s movies. I was always the only kid in my friend group who was like THAT'S THE GUY FROM FEAR! while my suburban friends were unimpressed.

It was maybe 86-87 when was 12 or 13 years old and my older brother invited me into his bedroom to listen to The Record. Just one of many killer classic punk and rock albums he turned me on to as a kid. Thanks bro!!! Cancer took his life earlier this year. F*ck cancer!!!

Ving has the coolest back story. Moved to LA and was invited to a punk show. Shocked that people enjoyed it so much so he started FEAR. Had previously been trying to break into the jazz scene.

I don't mean to throw you right into the deep end, but if you haven't seen it, Streets of Fire is SO WEIRD, and Lee Ving is fantastic in a small role.
