What an insane amount of head room! I guess you need that space for all the cigarette smoke to waft lol.

Even the 747 is not this spacious and square I don't believe. Strange...

Ah man, flights would be so sweet if I could drink AND just rip a heater whenever.

These damn boomers had it so good.

Back when folks dressed up to travel. I remember flying from New Orleans to St. Louis in the late 70s. My mom had me in a three piece suit. LOL

They look perfectly unposed and somewhat timeless. I am a little concerned for the person in the row behind them who's looking at your Opa like he/she wishes they could be that cool.

Wait, reddit told me that air travel in the 70s was the height of luxury, with huge charcuterie boardds being wheeled down the aisle while everyone lounged spaciously with a drink in hand.

Do you know when the first commercial flight went smokeless? 1973

Did you know, that in 1969, when smoking was allowed on all flights, we put a man on the moon?!?

Sour_Joe t1_j663tvu wrote

I’m old enough to remember people smoking everywhere. Planes, elevators, office, bars, etc. was just normal. Non smoking section was probably one room behind them.

In addition to the smoking or no overhead bins is the pillow (and not visible blankets) they would routinely give out. And magazines that they’d hand out. People played cards on planes or just read or talked. And a hot meal (usually not great but still) was included with the fare.

kicksomedicks t1_j66o2v7 wrote

OMG. The smoke. I traveled back then and the smoke in the plane was overwhelming.
