I know I will get downvoted to hell, but good! We need even tighter regulations or re-evaluate eligible people. I work in a high volume busy grocery/goods retailer outside Philly and no lie, it seems like everyone and their brother has an EBT card with high balances, most of which can't speak a lick of English to even know what button to hit on the pin pad for food, but are just fine pulling out wads of cash to pay for the items that aren't covered in their order. Or they have a cartload of items clearly going to be used in someones restaurant or bodega. bags of flour, nothing but cases of soda and energy drinks, etc. This occurs so many times a day I can't even keep count. Let me be clear I have zero issues with those that need EBT for those that truly need help, but 90% of the transactions I see are straight up abuse.

I didn't downvote you, but I will say that you are making an awful lot of assumptions about these people's lives based on a few minutes of interaction with them that's superficial at best.

I mean, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see someone paying for a full cart of drinks with EBT isn't someone 'in need' :. Those buying everyday food and grocery items, yeah, fine, no problem.

How do you know? Stock up on drinks when they are cheap, get caffeine so they can work the 3 jobs that aren't covering the bills.

You have no idea what you are talking about, what they are experiencing. Dont ASSume anything.

Your Facebook Grandpa post is indistinguishable from what people were saying in the 1980s about food stamp recipients. Impressive.

Pennsylvania has been recognized in the past by the federal government for running a tight ship with regards to SNAP fraud, you're just seeing what you want to see, and you made it quite clear what you think is abuse:

> it seems like everyone and their brother has an EBT card with high balances, most of which can't speak a lick of English

You think that abuse is when people who aren't like you receive benefits.

Love that you added that they can’t speak a lick of English. Our national language is English /s

Yep this is just an anonymous racist saying something that probably never even happened or happened like one time and they’re way over exaggerating and assuming some or most SNAP recipients are some type of person they deem undeserving. Just bigotry, racism, classicism, and they do it anonymously because they know it’s all it is. #keyboardracist

They just as commonly don't do it anonymously. This is a common trope from low class racists who have worked as cashiers & are pissed off at the world for being "better" than them. Facebook is full of people who love to come out of the woodwork whenever EBT is mentioned to tell about some time they worked in a grocery store or gas station and saw people "abusing it." Because obviously only low class whites deserve EBT or something like that.

Someone should turn it around and call them colonizers for speaking English in Pennsylvania instead of German (on a county by county level German was more common than English until WW1 throughout the state & some of those families were here before William Penn was).

Oh there is a simple solution.

Give everyone a snap card for the amount needed to feed everyone in the family. Then tax the rich to cover it.

The people using SNAP/EBT are not the people you should be upset with

How much perfectly good, edible food does your establishment throw out every day? How much good food is kept from hungry people in this nation that's supposedly the greatest ever? Maybe we don't need as many people on assistance if we don't have fake shortages of food and stop paying people so little since most people on SNAP are working at least one job.
