I consult for utilities. I don't know City Power and Gas at all. I did glance at their website. They all have shit customer service. But if you can't get them on the phone or get things done through website, I'd avoid them. It looks like they are focused on NYC and are moving into PA as a broker. Basically they just 'buy energy' from the distribution companies and sell it to you at a hopefully fixed rate for a certain period. A lot of these companies are not very legit and have clauses to increase your rates, early cancellation fees, deposits they will do thier best to never give back, etc. You can save money buying from brokers in a deregulated market, but it usually requires changing brokers every 6-12 months. They aren't actually producing anything. They are just gambling.

I have a scheduled date every 2 weeks to check rates. When I check I input - No cancelation fee- 4,000 Kwh monthly usage -Lowest to Highest Monthly Estimate. And deliberately look for longest term vs rate. Got shafted though this past month, My 18 month contract expired- .051¢pkw/h, and jumped to 0.102¢pkw/h as lowest I could find. Found some today though at 8¢ and 9¢ 🤷

best i found is 11.31 pkwh over 6 months, anything at 12 months is more. that seems pretty good to me

if it's the lowest in your range and you inputted 1.5 of your last months kwh used, then I'd take it is there's no cancelation fee , then you can keep hopping if you want

well i would cetainly keep it for 6 months since thats really the only supplier in my area. my electric company is also raising rates soon so i dont see a reason to switch

right, i dont mind just working through the website but i can even get to the terms of the actual plan to see if theres any cancellation fees etc. on papowerswitch it says there are none but id like to see the same on city power and gas website

Oh, well then you will be sorely disappointed. Because PA power switch is actually a "Auction House"; or rather clearing house. Just because the rates are posted on PA power switch DOES NOT mean they have then posted on their own website. The info submitted to PA power switch is like, the Walmart of rates. They are encouraged to post good rates on there because they are required to advertise their rates ON PA power switch as part of their licensing. But they do NOT need to post those as a general person looking for a rate on their website. They are "Provider" deals lol

If found on PA power switch they atleast got a license to provide power

Just switch providers before the end of term. What's your rate?

switch to anything else, papowerswitch.com, filter for monthly lowest to highest, put your average kwh usage at around 1.5 of your last months and search. look for anything longer than 6 months .

Rates change again on June 1st.

Do you really have to enter your power usage? I've always left it at the default and searched that way. I know the price wouldn't be correct but I always figured they'd be fine with selling you more juice. We use way more than the default which I believe is like 700 or something like that.

Well, it's not presented explicitly on the website, or the suppliers websites. But, they SOMETIMES have a higher incentive to cover the bigger portions of their wholesale purchases with the idea that, if offered lower rates, ABOVE average usage, normally equates to prompt payment because you are obviously using more than someone who is turning off the heat and may not be able to pay, and they need 6 of those types accounts at 700kwh to roughly equal what I do in 4,000kwh per month. so they can shave a few pennies off the cost to make sure that they have the recoupment of the purchase of power they are responsible for.

EDIT: From one of my service agreements.

Look at the scaling of price then look at the rate at top

EDIT 2:

  • 4,000Kwh X 10.9¢ = 436$

  • 4,000Kwh X .12608 = 504.32$

The extra cents add up the more you use, well it adds up to savings to constantly lower the rate dependent on your usage for a better cost savings for you
