Does anyone know how these invasive species native to China, Russia and Korea wind up in an American pond? If I'm not mistaken, the lanternfly hitched a ride from Asia on some gravel, or so I was told.

Probably imported as an exotic species for the pet trade. That is how most invasive species arrive.

That and they are both tasty and fun to catch ..,. So clearly we need them everywhere( proceeds to destroy native ecosystem)

On a side note, some religions practice a form of animal "mercy" release and there have been a few incidents where people unknowingly released non-native species into US waterways. I think this could be one of the ways the snakehead got here.

I know of one that occurred in Berks county that was (luckily) contained to a small pond.
