I'd wait until the next safety inspection, at which time it's required. If it bothers you, an emissions inspection station can do it at any time. I'm pretty sure they'll only give you a sticker valid until your current safety inspection expires, though.

They should give you a sticker that has today's date and lasts a year. But I've also read you can only get it redone as much as two months in advance of the expiration on the current stickers too.

The OP should just know, until he gets current he is going to get pulled over for put of date stickers. I've even had the cops knock and wake me up because my car parked in front of my house on the street had an out of date sticker. Told me to avoid a ticket I had to park it somewhere off the street until it was current. I had simply forgotten about it.

Seems in this case OP bought a car from a county with no emissions requirement, but has a valid safety sticker. Upon registering in his name, the safety sticker is still valid, but he's registered in a county also requiring an emissions inspection.
