Looks like a family of dentists and numerous others engaged in human trafficking, racketeering, tax evasion and using unapproved dental implants. Ringleaders of Savani Group face at least 400 years in the federal pen if convicted. Quite the read.

These people are fucked. They deserve it. And the feds don’t file charges after spending years investigating unless they have a rock solid case.

Knowing the federal government, it was the last one that got the ball rolling.

Whoa! My family went to one of their practices for a few years, and there was always ridiculous turnover with hygienists, etc. to the point that we never felt comfortable with their work, or their care suggestions.

Left them behind and went to a new place that may be the best dentist I've had in all my life.

A big part of the ACA reforms was that it set up a separate division at DOJ that just goes after Medicaid/Medicare fraud. It's paid for itself every year. A big part of why we still have issues is that the wealthiest man in congress, Senator Rick Scott (R-Fl), made his fortune bilking Medicare. As CEO his company was involved in an auto-bill scam that was, at the time, the largest Medicare fraud in US history, totaling over $ 1 billion. He pleaded the 5th nearly 100 times in the trial, pretending he had no idea how it could happen. He also opposed the ACA's fraud reforms.

Fking RICO! It's never RICO. And when it is actually RICO, someone is going to jail for a thousand years.

Dan Meusser, a PA congressman reputed to be a resident of NY, also made his fortune by bilking Medicare via kickback schemes. Only fined $80,000. Was not forced to disgorge the ill-gotten gains thanks to the loving hands of his pal, then US Attorney for the Middle District of PA, Tom Marino.

More than $80M. That's the thing. Imagine how much fraud there is for smaller amounts that will never be discovered, prosecuted and partially clawed back.

Medicare/Medicaid are huge systems where there is little incentive to discover fraud. Nobody gets a huge bonus if they find fraud. And that's why big government run programs have this stereotype about them that they are mismanaged and rife with fraud. And rightfully so.

No doubt why the Republicans put him in charge of the NRSC - if anyone knows how to defraud the government he should rise to the top. He took his job so seriously that he went to Italy to escape when they audited the committees finances.
