I would say Exeter. Decent school system, not too busy, and decent amount of food and shopping nearby.

Fair points but I hate the traffic in Warwick. And I truly believe there is something for everyone at Warwick Mall
🎶 There is something for everyone at Warwick Mall!!🎶
Waraq is literally the greatest city in the US of A
Seen too many trump signs on the way to the beach for me to agree with that…..
You ain't liein
[deleted]
Did you seen them?
All you have to do is not care and it will have zero effect on your life 👍
Ah yes, if I simply don't care about politics it will never affect my life, sure.
Because seeing signs for a the Republicans in one of the bluest states in the country is to shocking for the conscious.
Lol. It’s a flag in someone’s yard, if that makes you judge/afraid of an entire town you’re a fool. I don’t like trump either, but he doesn’t live rent free in my head like you maniacs.
Damn, you sure read a lot in to my comment that didn't mention any particular political leaning.
Ah yes the fuck your feelings crowd is telling everyone not to care. Noted.
Nothing wrong with that.
Bristol. Colt State Park, East Bay Bike Path, downtown, historic homes, and the 4th of July celebrations throughout town and the parade. Good restaurants and very walkable.
Plus some of the best waterfront in the state. The combo of Bristol/Warren can't be beat for smiles per mile. Newport-lite.
Edit: I'm not sure I'd call Bristol 'underrated', though. It's pretty highly rated.
I love Bristol!

I live in Warren, and grew up a mile away in Swansea, MA. I've lived all over, and Warren may be my all-around favorite. That being said, the town governance needs to be purged starting with the town manager. They're criminally bad at everything.
I'm quite fond of Scituate. It's a great fix for that small town feel but isn't too far from Providence. There are some hidden gems there too (Barden Family Orchard, Martinelli's Farm, Lucky Clover Farm, the farmers market, Scituate Arts Fest, and Famous Pizza, just to name a few)
The whole western corridor of the state is underrated (Burrillville down to Bradford/Charlestown).
It’s the only part of the state where you still have a reasonable chance at buying an affordable house. Not much traffic, and it’s easy to get to Providence/the heart of the state (maybe with the exception of Burrillville and Foster).
The schools are generally good, the crime is low, and you’re much closer to most outdoor activities than the rest of the state (the West is littered with Audobon preserves, state management areas, lakes, ponds, and more).
And if you’re into it, the pace of life is more relaxed. Though they’re everywhere, you’re less likely to deal with aggressive and dangerous drivers simply because there’s less cars.
If you can look past the political atmosphere (and even that isn’t really that bad, Burrillville voted the most for Trump of all the towns at only 57.5%, Biden won Richmond, and Trump carried Exeter by less than a point), it’s really a great part of the state.
Cranston. We have Garden City and Pawtuxet Village, and historic Edgewood, Roger Williams Park. Just ignore the west part and you have a gem. Also borders Providence so never far from the city.
Them property taxes though. I was paying like $7k a year.
Cranston gives me Florida vibes.
Yuck. I am probably the least Florida person I know. I won't visit that shithole. What could possibly give you Florida vibes in Cranston?
The layout of the city itself has always felt like older Florida cities. Some of the architecture as well.
Examples?
Charlestown
Charlestown, Little Compton
I agree about charlestown. Lived the first 29 years of my life there. I miss it sometimes.
Woonsocket
I teach in Woonsocket, and my first year at my current school, I only learned the way to and from the job. This year, I spent a little more time driving through and seeing more of it, and I have to say, Woonsocket is actually a very cute and charming area. It may not be the nicest area (although I’ve never personally had any issues), I feel pretty lucky to be working there.
I used to work there and would argue with my co-workers about it. "I don't get it, it doesn't seem that bad," I'd say. "There are murders here!" one of my co-workers shot back. I looked it up and it turned out there's usually either one or no murders in a typical year.
Downtown Woonsocket and river falls are both pretty cool
Agreed, but does not make up for the rest of Woonsocket
Downtown is one of the worst parts lol
Go over to E street and that neighborhood and tell me if you still think that. LOL
I said one of lol there’s plenty to choose from
Woonsocket gets a bad rap when they truly do have a lot to offer!
Can you please expand on this?
Totally agree! The architecture in the North End is really cool, and the city has an interesting history.
This is insane to me. Have spent more time then I’d like there and it is an absolute dump. Drab and gross. Smells awful there for months at a time to top it off.
Honestly, I think Johnston takes more grief than they deserve. I mean, they’ve got Market Basket now. And Snake Den. And a tiny stretch of bike path.
True but I HATE the 6/10 mess going on and will avoid Johnston at all costs (as a northerner) Until that gets fixed, it sits low on the bar for me
Isn’t the 6/10 connector in Providence?
Snake Den is the only underrated part of Johnston.
Tiverton/ Little Compton
Very different towns. I do like LC.
Tiverton 4 corners is adorable and has wonderful businesses and isn’t far from LC
West Greenwich. It’s a whole much of nothingness but it’s my nothingness I grew up with.
Underrated? Lincoln easily. Great schools and so much to do.
Tbh Lincoln is super underrated. Pawtucket is think is also, there is just so much potential.
Newport.
It has a reputation that it’s just a summer town. It’s not.

This is easy for me: Warwick. It seems to get shit on a lot, but it's got a ton of really attractive waterfront; a surprisingly large number of excellent parks (Goddard, Rocky Point, City Park, etc.); a number of excellent residential neighborhoods (Cowesett is my favorite in the entire state, Buttonwoods Beach is amazing, Potowomut, I could go on); the best big-box retail strip in the state terminating in the state's second largest mall; half of beautiful Pawtuxet Village.
People seem to put it down because of a few dead strip malls and mediocre schools (though people also say they're moving to Cranston for the schools, which are ranked essentially the same), and nobody likes living near the airport (though it can be really convenient, including commuter rail to Boston). I've lived in four places in my 10 years in RI and three of them have been in Warwick, and that wasn't an accident.
