From what I’ve been told Bonnet is impossible to get a membership at. However I was wondering if there are any other beach clubs in RI where there isn’t a 5+ year waiting list. I have 3 small children and would love to belong to a beach club.

Yeah idk, NK town beach is $10 at town hall for a parking pass, open to anyone with no quantity cap. Sweet new playground, and very calm, shallow water good for kids too.

Do private clubs have cabanas and bottle service or something?

Hands down best beach. $20 for non-NK residents. Worth every cent

is that the beach where you walk out into the water and after 1/2 a mile of walking out to the deep, your only upto your ankles?

Oh! Thanks for the correction!

Never belonged to a beach club here, but I grew up in a South Shore Long Island town that has perhaps 10 of them. Fun fact, the one right next door was where Donald Trump went as a kid; everyone in the area knew it as the one that doesn't accept Jews.

Most people join them because it's a scene. It's the summer version of a country club. There's usually a restaurant, there's a bar, you make a whole day of it and it's a lot more comfortable than just hauling your chair to the beach. You can go inside and kick back, go out to the beach, go inside and kick back again. Often they'll have chairs, umbrellas. They'll have kids working there to set everything up. You'll get a cabana so you can change inside, in privacy. There may be showers that are better than the ones you'll typically find at the beach, when you'll find showers there at all. There's often a pool too. You can get access to their facilities -- one girl I grew up with had her birthday party there every year. And then I'm sure more than a few people join them to make business and social connections.

are you allowed to drink on the beach, thats always a plus

JKBone85 t1_is0aq4u wrote

You can do that on any beach as long as you are responsible about it.

saucyB52 t1_is2c3bn wrote

Less crowded than a public beach. Can bring booze.

Sorry, isn’t it constitutional that all shores are public? Or are private beach clubs like country clubs on the waterfront?

8

1ngsoc t1_irxy0di wrote

That is correct! Recently the GA has looked into the constitutionality of these types of clubs. Looking at you, Bonnett Shores!

degggendorf t1_irz1x5s wrote

You can still legally access the shore below high tide. But you can't cross private property to get there, and (ofc) can't use the private club facilities above that line either.

Then it really comes down to the club's enforcement and your willingness to litigate to protect your (our) rights.

If you get lucky you can buy a pass for Gooseberry Beach (Newport). They sell a limited number every year. It’s great for small kids. But memberships is near impossible. You don’t get that much more as a member there, just access to the clubhouse and you get a cabana (big locker) to store all your beach stuff.

Otherwise, I can’t think of a club activity accepting new members

boulevardofdef t1_irxihpt wrote

Can you still get day passes to Gooseberry Beach? It's one of my favorite beaches but I haven't been in years, and last I heard you couldn't get daily admission anymore.

2

rightmindedBen t1_irxjwqh wrote

You can again. $30 a day. They limit the number of spots they sell everyday. Snack shack is still cash only for whatever reason

2

coolstoryglenn t1_irxv1ja wrote

Yup, until the parking lot is full. Price varies by the day/month. No more walk ons.

1

coolstoryglenn t1_irxuw2s wrote

You don’t get a cabana. Cabana rentals are separate and the wait list for those is longer than becoming a shareholder.

The pass is for parking.

You wanna belong to a club? Move to Little Compton and attend the town beach on a Saturday.

The best beach in RI in my opinion

The Goosewing end is my preference, as I like the solitude and sand. No matter what, it's closer to the open ocean than any other point in RI. The tidal flow is basically a steady stream from Nantucket sound. Nice

Napatree is public- - you just have to pay for parking - -

Preferably B4 9AM

After that there's none available - -

Because of limited parking - - there's lots of room on the beach

What’s the scoop with the dunes club? I heard 20k entry fee then 4K per year each family and you have to get referred? I couldn’t find it anywhere online though. I just got to Narragansett beach before they open for free or state beach parking pass for 30 bucks.

Anybody have any knowledge of Seaside Beach Club in Westerly?

1

2you_msRobinson t1_irxzau1 wrote

1.) Belonging to a beach club limits the membership to people who can pay, and so there is usually an uncrowded experience at the beach.

2.) Belonging to a beach club is private, so you won’t be required to listen to loud music brought by other beach-goers.

3.) Your beach experience is safer that “just going to the beach”, because entrance to the beach will be limited to members only.

Lol yes, going to a state beach is quite dangerous! You might get beaten to death by a 6 year old and his plastic shovel.

Also, I’ve been going to Narragansett Beach my whole life. Sounds like you’re the only one here with a membership, bozo.
