Hello all!

I need to transfer all my license/registration/title from MA to RI .

To register in ri i need copy of title .

My lienholder says to “fax the letterhead of your new state dmv “ to a number listed on their site .

How do I do this request ? Do I send them an application for a duplicate title? That’s all I found on RI DMV site.

RI does not do requests of titles anymore it seems . Thank you!

You can just call your bank and request a copy of the title. They will most likely fax it to the DMV on your behalf (but you can request a copy as well). You should also discuss changing your title to a RI title with your bank too. Best of luck!

Make sure your vin is legible to the old fuck retired cops with bad eyesight who do the vin check. They wouldn't let me read it to them, so I had to Photoshop the copy the bank sent me so the geezers could see it for themselves. Everything about transferring a license and a registration to RI is ridiculously difficult.

I called my leinholder and they faxed me their paperwork confirming they have the title. Wont look like a title but registry said it was fine. Did this approx 4 mo the ago.

Thanks for the help guys . Yea they give u 30 days which I think is not enough time considering the vin check and trying to get a title copy and getting off work to spend a day at dmv lol

Vin checks are SO annoying here. The woman who does them at Middletown PD is clueless, it pisses me off that we pay for her to work there. I went to get a scooter that I bought from Mass vin checked. Mass doesn’t title 49cc scooters and she insisted I needed a title despite having the last registration and showing her the Mass DMV website stating that it’s not a titled vehicle. She told me to drive 45 mins each way all the way to Cranston LMFAO. I’d have to truck the scooter there since it’s so far and I can’t ride it over the bridge. Newport PD accepted my documents no problem as well as referenced the Mass DMV website. They were also friendly.

I love you name by the way lol. It’s what we’re all thinking , all the time . Do they give them a copy to have on file for when I go in to dmv, or should it be something I do the day before I go into the actually dmv to do all the paper work ? Im moving next week so don’t have “residency “ yet I guess technically, just want to get ducks in a row

Thank you! It should be noted at every establishment if you ask me haha

In a perfect world, the bank would just send it to the DMV but since we live here I would request a copy be emailed or faxed to you. Your bank will be super helpful getting you what you need.

Edit: I’m not sure about residency but I think if you just switch a cell phone bill to a friend or families address that will work fine (they may require two pieces I can’t remember)

Yea I just saw on RI site I must have missed it , “must obtain title from Research Office first to get your title once lien holder sends it over .” Dmv is so so dumb . We live in an age of crazy technology and we’re making people do these things is insane to me

Quick question since you went through this - did you need title in hand to do the VIN check at the police station? Or to have started the registration process at all? I'm still waiting for the bank to get the title sent to the Cranston DMV, but want to get started on everything else since MA registration is expiring.
