Bruh it’s expensive as fuck imo, I don’t know how you guys live like this. I’m from California and out here for a few weeks longer than expected so needed to re-up today.
What I’m used to is $70 for 1 oz., $20 for a 1g vaporizer cartridge, and $16 for 1g of concentrate
Here at best I could find 1/8ths for $40, 1/2g cartridges for $50, and 1g concentrate for $70
I looked at all the dispensaries in RI and MA. RISE in Warwick had a $30 popcorn 1/8th that was new today that I was going to get until I had to go to the MA border for something else and found one dispensary with $8 grams (no 1/8ths, 1/2s, or much less full ounces) that after tax came out to $40.
More expensive than I’m used to but closer to Nevada prices that I’m originally used to so I pulled the trigger. But god damn, it’s weird seeing y’all go through the process we went through years ago.
For a few years dealers will stay in business and only old rich people will go to dispensaries. Then they’ll drop the prices of flower first, little by little until they’re same price as the dealers. Then the vapes and dabs will go down in price too eventually and it will make little sense to deal with having to go to some guys apartment who twenty minutes after arriving will let you know he’s “totally gonna be down in 5 bro”

I go to Nova in S Attleboro. $20 1/8ths but the tax is still like 25%. I still think its way better than getting your goods from a guy who knows a guy who can get you "good shit". I'm loving being able to find strains that actually work for me in the way I want them to rather than the lottery the dealers (all the one's I've ever dealt with) are peddling.
ItsAlwaysSmokyInReno t1_iz9iubo wrote
That’s pretty good, I looked at that dispensary two days ago but didn’t see that deal though. Ended up going to CommCan in Rehoboth, definitely didn’t expect to be driving into farmland that reminds me more of Vermont than Greater Boston. Was pretty cool.
Some of the dispensaries around here try to do their own menu layouts instead of using the universal Dutchie one and can be hard to navigate so I don’t doubt it was there but I couldn’t find it.
SeveralPineapple1988 t1_iz9jdqf wrote
Their inventory changes daily so it's better to peek in and stock up when you can. Sometimes 20 packs of 5mg gummies go on sale for $8 a bag. The $20 1/8ths are typically from Nova or Southie Adams.
Edit: Just checked their site and they have like 6 strains for $20.
ItsAlwaysSmokyInReno t1_iz9nekc wrote
That’s one thing that’s weird about dispensaries that seem to be universal around the country…
You can never count on a good price still being there the next day. I get it, they don’t drive off younger tech savvy more budget focused customers by offering something on sale every day, but they also keep making bank from older rich people who haven’t smoked since the 80s and don’t really know what prices should be
SeveralPineapple1988 t1_iz9ogf2 wrote
Well the gummy thing is a once a week occurrence whereas they almost always have a selection of $20 1/8ths. I don't smoke like crazy so it's not bad to me. Again, I just like knowing that what I'm getting is clean, properly measured, and what I actually want. I'd gladly pay a little extra for that.
What I usually equate it to is like going into a liquor store for vodka, but all they have is bottom shelf sambuca. That's what my 15 year experience buying from dealers has been like.
_wheresMySuperSuit t1_iz92rs3 wrote
If you’re willing to drive, there was a place in Uxbridge that had $10 8ths like 2 weeks ago.
ItsAlwaysSmokyInReno t1_iz942id wrote
If the stores act like the ones I’m used to is bet that deal is either sold out or no longer on sale at this point. Thank you though
TheOGJayRussle t1_iz94lq8 wrote
Yeah I lived in CA for 10 years, moved back to RI 12 years ago, and yes watching the state act like there was no blueprint was entertaining also, plus we can only grow 6 plants, in MA it’s 12, in CA it’s 12, but RI got there heads up there but.
ItsAlwaysSmokyInReno t1_iz95146 wrote
Better than NV in terms of growing plants. In Nevada they passed a law that you can grow one plant if you live more than 25 miles from the nearest dispensary
I don’t know if you know Nevada, but it’s a desert state with lowest population density in the country. Two counties and one independent city hold 98% of the population because those are the only places with consistent water sources
There’s only a few towns in Nevada and they all have dispensaries. The rest of the state isn’t rural like the empty parts of New England are, it is EMPTY, like areas with zero people larger than Southern New England.
Long story short, less than 1% of the population is within more than 25 miles from a dispensary making it de facto illegal to grow any plants
TheOGJayRussle t1_iz955wy wrote
I’ve been to dispensaries there but never looked up the laws, that does suck.

I was hoping rec weed in RI would have drove down the prices in MA because of competition
Bass_Monster t1_iz6r5el wrote
It's already coming down in MA, so RI legalization could mean our prices stagnate while RI dispos bring their prices down to match. Meanwhile, MA dispos will lower the prices to compete. Wash, rinse, repeat. We'll all be smoking cheaper bud. It's coming, but it's going to take a while for the RI market to have that effect though.

Same. I gave my on my guy because he couldn't compete and he'd have a mountain of whatever type of stuff that would take weeks to go through and sometimes it was just blah and you have no choice. HeadyBeersBrah t1_iz7i7oa wrote
They allowed a lot of dispensaries and caregivers to get licenses. We limited both here, and only had 3 stores for the longest time (up until 5 days ago). In Maine I drive past 6 stores to get to the one I want. There was no competition here, they can sell us crap weed for premium prices because a lot of people don't have access to anything else.
Grow your own if you can.

Is RI testing for heavy metals and mold at the same standard as MA? Genuine question. From what I have been told, they do not & I have been buying from MA for that reason. The shit from the Slater has also gotten people sick from a pesticide they use. So I am very weary of RI's cannabis cultivation. Gonna stick with MA til I know for sure they do shit right.
USMC_Doc8404 t1_iz7862q wrote
RI changed their testing standards and require testing for heavy metals and mold. I recommend going to Mother Earth for your weed stuff.
zoejo_ t1_iz7yosl wrote
RI currently has some of the strictest testing regulations in the US. Our limits for triggering a failure are much lower than other states.
Also, RI requires on site testing; meaning that a lab agent is required to come into your facility to collect representative samples of an entire batch of product (concentrates, edibles, prerolls, flower), to then bring back to the lab to run all compliance tests. In Mass, someone who works for the grow/processor/dispensary selects a ‘representative sample to bring to a lab for testing. This is somewhat controversial, as it allows the possibility of the sample being altered/not being a truly representative sample of the entire whole (taking only top buds out of a bag to send in for testing to get a higher THC%, or even using a previously tested product that has high THC%, and sending it in as a different, untested product).
Rhode Island also only reports back THC% on their products; THC% = THCa * .0877 + Delta 9. Mass reports TAC (total active cannabinoids), so TAC= THCV + CBGN + CBGA + delta 9 + (THCa * .0877). There are more cannabinoids on the test that get added into the TAC equation. But that’s also why Mass %’s seem higher than RI. Some list 104% or higher in Mass because of TAC
Edit: extra words: While we have some of the strictest testing regs, we only started implementing them 2 years ago, and each test became regulation at different points within those 2 years
LEENIEBEENIE93 t1_izdzfq6 wrote
Thank you. I was going off of info that was 4 plus years old. Havent looked into since then, really. My cousin used to protest the lack of oversight / quality testing in medical marijuana cultivation at the state house, and I didn't know if they had made improvements. Great to know, and I'm glad they have!
zoejo_ t1_izfefqk wrote
It definitely has been a problem in the past. We’ve had our medical program 10+ years, and just 2 years ago started requiring testing of products. But compared to Mass and CT regulations, RI’s are much stricter. Especially the count that triggers a microbial failure. Just a heads up, the State does allow dispensaries to remediate and/or extract failed product. So if something previously failed for mold/yeast/bacterial growth; it can get put in a remediation machine and sold to consumers. Or it can get used for extraction.

For edibles with a med card, Greenleaf is cheaper than the edibles available in MA. I think the price difference there is due to MA mandating everything be organic. MA stuff definitely is better-tested. That said, all the edibles at Greenleaf are delicious and have never made me sick, and their topicals are unbeatable for pain relief.
