This is appalling. Do any of you know the landlord or any renters? I can't believe he gets away with this.

Well it seems like the appropriate people to contact in these situations have not been doing their job at all. 3 confirmed cases of lead poisoning and still no state or agency intervention. Sounds like like we need to eat the rich

This is eerily similar to what I endured as a tenant in Providence some years ago. These men dont give a fuck. They want their money even if their houses are dilapidated and hazardous. He won't pay up and fix a thing until he is forced to do so with a series of lawsuits, which are expensive to fund and time consuming. This guy isn't the only one doing this to Prov tenants. My slumlord was from MA, too. Collected 5 grand a month from a house filled with mold and lead. Wish the state would get involved. I'm glad their voices are being heard. I dont miss living in Providence.
My mom used to live on the corner of Cowessette and Coit avenue's and her landlord was illegally renting his basement to her. She didn't know this and when it was found out she ended up losing her place to live. He was a real asshole-he killed two of our cats because he didn't like them and screwed me out of $500 pay when I worked for his pool installation company (I was helping her with the rent-I guess he figured since it was going to him anyway it was OK to not bother paying me).

I think they should renovate his home until it's up to the same standard he maintains in his rentals.
Everyone should go to tacobell and then make a deposit at his door, on the door, on the windows, just about anything basically.

Ooh wow I know this guy and he is a total piece of shit, not surprised to see his name in this article. Actually I'm thrilled he is being called out.
I hope to see updates! I'm convinced most of the multifamily, mill town style building that make up Providence's neighborhood are plagued with these problems. Rented one in Fed Hill where the absolute bare minimum would be done. This sounds even worse.
They will not touch paint unless someone complains. I bet they don't even check it to keep their consciences clean.
What the fuck do we do? How I see it;
A. Enforcement needs to be stepped up and we need to reevaluate standards for all of the buildings that are reaching a breaking point; we all know these in question were built around the same time. The one-off buildings that make up this city make it easy to hide all sorts of issues. I imagine going after a 20 story apartment building is a lot easier than 5 standalone 4 unit multis. That shouldn't be an excuse though.
B. I've always heard about the red tape surrounding building new. Is there truth to this? Might be something to address since the only new buildings I see are far out of my price range to rent solo. Although I'm definitely not making crazy money, I still consider my pay pretty good in comparison to those around my age/demographic.
C. Honestly more of us should probably get off our butts and protest/demonstrate. If it keeps going the way it is, this should naturally happen anyway. The more press coverage on the problem, the more pressure there is on our politicians.
Whenever I read disgusting stories like this (the slumlord not the poor victims) my blood boils. We still aren’t that far removed from The Jungle, are we?

Ironically it's right across the street from where The Station nightclub used to be. Since she was a nurse my mom was out there helping the night the fire happened. I'm lucky I was living in Cali at the time as I almost never missed a Great White show whenever they played there.

This shit pisses me off as a landlord, there's still plenty of money to be made without absolutely fucking every tenant you have. It's a shame when greed wins over self pride.
