Do you read at the same speed that you speak?

Demonstrably false; otherwise, nonliterate people would be unable to think.

This is a friendly reminder to read our rules.
Remember, /r/Showerthoughts is for showerthoughts, not "thoughts had in the shower!"
(For an explanation of what a "showerthought" is, please read this page.)
Rule-breaking posts may result in bans.

I read faster than I speak and I'll bet you do too. I can also think while I read. Most people should be able to. Try it out for yourself. You can look at a word that has 4 syllables and understand it faster than you could probably read it.

That's not true. think speed is 75%faster than speech. It is only slowed by the understanding and comprehension of what it is intaking.
