As a kid I did monarch tagging in the 90s. Catching them in the field behind my house where they’d visit on their migrations, carefully gluing tags on them and releasing them. The tagging kit was free from the researchers, we were so poor I couldn’t afford a butterfly net, so I used a wal-mart bag on a stick. I got nearly beat up when some other kids found me doing it one day.
Anyway there’s my rambling memory of loving these poor guys and trying to help, way back in the early 90s. So glad they finally made a comeback at the 11th hour, but more needs to be done here and for other species.

I miss the giant dragonflies that used to dart around my head noshing on mosquitoes. I don’t seem to see them much around anymore. The mosquitoes are still here, though.

You see, just like the flawless monarch butterfly from which I take my name, the Monarch has many ways to sting.

Why not hire someone to plant some milkweed for you? Make sure they don’t use ANY pesticides or chemicals though, only organic!

Maybe my search terms on Google are bad but I have not found anything around Los Angeles.

When I was in school there was a field along the playground and a fence. There was milkweed growing all along it and we would constantly find fuzzy caterpillars and see monarch butterflies and find Cicada molts.

At the house I grew up in, they'd roost in our trees. Then after mom sold the place, the new owner cut down all the trees.
To this day, I have a strong appreciation for trees.

I read that as like a monarchy. But those butterflies are so cool, great to hear they are doing better!
