I haven’t heard that song in quite a while and I’ve never watched the video. I love the song and it’s so fitting for missing children. I’m happy to hear that 21 children were found due to this song. The song definitely needs more play today!

I actually hear it quite a bit on the 80s and 90s radio station near me. Even while traveling in Germany it was playing on the radio. This song meant a lot to me growing up and gave me a way of interfacing with depression. I think it is still pretty powerful and hearing the story behind the video is amazing.

Terrific evolution of the recording and message it created.

BTW, Alan Hale was the star of the TV show Casey Jones that he mentioned. Years later, to be known as the captain on Gilligan's Island.

On the flipside.... at least a couple of kids in the Australian version of the video were victims of a serial killer (Ivan Milat)

Yeah, sometimes missing kids who ran away on purpose are found and returned to the abusive environments they left in the first place. It’s not always a happy reunion.

In 2019, there was a cover version and the missing children in the video were tailored to where you're watching the video from.

There are a handful of songs I love but can never put on my playlist. I get so emotional. (another one is Travelin' Soldier by The Chicks)

Sometimes just doing what needs doing is the only thing to do. Kudos.

TIL this band was from Minnesota. The article solicits it, but that First Ave/7th Street shirt made me click the link. What a solid story. I hope most of these kids had happy lives after reuniting.

Saw them play at Coffman Union at UofMN, when they were not famous. Then 2 years later on TV playing at Clinton's inauguration.

Didn't some of the kids say they were returned to abusive families?

I had always heard this. Some were very angry about being found because there was a reason they left.

Huh. I remember at the time wondering if the video made a difference. I guess it did.

Less uplifting - in australia three if thé young people missing and featured in that song were later found to have been that victims of the mass murderer, Ivan Milat.

At least their families got closure. It's a lot easier to deal with a death than it is dealing with a world of unknown possibilities.

Yea. The Bastard never confessed however and his family still defended him. I can’t watch this version of the music video without thinking of what those poor kids went though ..

I saw them live a couple nights ago. Only Dave Pirner is left from the originals but he’s still terrific. Highly recommend going to see them!
