This was an absolutely wild read. These women are wonderful and possibly crazy to do this. It seems like the cops did... basically nothing besides posing holding the baby.

I wasn’t expecting that kind of read. Those two ladies went way above and beyond, and it felt like some kind of wild private investigator story. We’ll done finding the kid!!

Those ladies are amazing. I want to know how long the baby was alone in a car covered in snow. Wtf!? Thank goodness he didn’t freeze.

And taking full credit for the rescue while leaving these women completely out of their narrative

What an amazing story. They saved that baby’s life. My due date group has a lot of children exactly the same age as the twins, so we were very invested. I remember when they announced they found the first baby at the airport, we all feared the worst. I hope no charges are brought against the single mother who was just doing the best she could in an impossible situation, and all the blame for the entire situation is put on the car thief/kidnapper.

Honestly? The insulation of the snow probably is the only reason the baby didn’t freeze.

Also the cops just hung up on them multiple times...???

Shyann notices “Mae” acting erratically and films her. When she shows the video to Mecka, they realize it could be the kidnapping suspect. They make a plan to reconnect with her, then (after several attempts to get the cops to pay attention) eventually get Mae arrested. Then, based on one clue left in the car, methodically search likely locations for the stolen car and kidnapped baby, until they find him and rescue him. And how is this feat of observation, persistence, and deduction framed by the story? “Mother’s intuition.” Ain’t nothing intuitive about it, just straight-up detective work, but when it’s women who figure it out, we say it was “intuition”—not her observational skills and brainpower, but some supernatural sixth sense women receive when they have a baby. And that’s how subconscious bias in reporting works.
UnprofessionalGhosts t1_j1lvmjk wrote
The mother’s intuition part is from a direct quote from the cousins. They claimed that’s what it was. The reporter is just reporting that lol
Pater_Aletheias t1_j1lvrbv wrote
Yes, because even the women involved have been socialized to label their own deductive skills as “intuition.”

Those women are amazing. And as usual, the cops were absolutely useless. Worse than useless- they didn't believe the women when they said they had the suspect with them.

Apparently the police department didn't understand that they had found the suspected kidnapper, but instead of trying to understand what they were saying, they hung up on them. Gives me a lot of faith in calling the police when you have a big problem /s

This story should be on every station--these women are AMAZING and the only reason that baby didn't die of cold or dehydration. And the fact that they had to do it all while trying to convince cops to arrest the suspect, and then do all the actual sleuthing to find the baby. Were the cops even looking for the baby at all??? Makes you wonder how different things would have been if it were the child of a rich white couple.
These women need to be invited to the White House, celebrated on tv, etc. They are an inspiration, doing all of this to save a baby they didn't know. Shyann Delmar and Mecka Curry--two amazing heroes who worked their asses of and never gave up and ended up bringing a baby home to his family. Even though this story is frustrating because the cops were so terrible, it's inspiring because of Shyann and Mecka. Brilliant job, ladies.

I went down a rabbit hole.
Timeline: Babies stolen in car at around 9:45 pm on Monday 12/19 in Columbus, OH.
First baby found between to cars in a car seat by a passerby at fucking Dayton International Airport at 4:15 AM on Tuesday 12/20. (About 2 hr drive away)
Suspect arrested Thursday 12/23 at 2PM by Indianapolis police (2.5 ish hrs away from where the first baby was left)
Second baby found in a car in a parking lot at 6:45PM on Thursday. 175 miles from where the initial abduction took place, but in another pizza place, which is an odd coincidence.
The police say that the car was parked there for 2 days.
I don’t know why Papa John’s didn’t report a car left in their parking lot for 2 days, that’s seems bananas
