I live where it gets cold. Lethally cold, at times. I can not fathom people who also reside in a similar climate ever turning someone away in the midst of a storm. Just.... Fucking mind boggling to me. Dude should be praised, to be sure, but those who turned him away should be powerfully ashamed of themselves. At least one of them had the decency to apologize in tears the next day.

That said, it could very well be that some of them did not feel safe allowing a strange man into their home. I get that. But, come on. Dude got turned down many times. They all felt unsafe?

The good news here is that the police didn't react stupidly (I called in a roadside grass fire once, started containing it with the stuff in my truck, and the CHP guys that showed up first to respond to it basically keep trying to blame me for it until the fire truck also showed up)

Not only did he do a brave thing and saved lives, he took responsibility for his actions afterward and was ready to face any consequences because he knew those people would die without him. Gives you hope for us humans, doesn't it?

It was a blessing in disguise, as the man himself said. All the people who refused him HAD to in order for all the other people to be saved. It's like the movie "It's A Wonderful Life." If he didn't exist, he wouldn't have been around to save them. If just 1 of the houses he went to let him in (I would have), it's possible several of the people he saved wouldn't have made it. Just a little analogy. Glad it ended well for all.

Yeah I don't think their finding a school or making it that far was inevitable. They could well have all died and for what, so someone's tv didn't get stolen? Let that be a lesson to us.

I can imagine they must have felt more and more sickened as the news of more deaths kept coming throughout the blizzard. I cannot imagine.
