hey guys! a friend and i are gonna be in portland next week and staying in a hotel close to the washington border. we were wanting to find some fun things to do in washington while visiting. probably no more than an hour away from portland and i’m having a hard time finding anything on google. i’d love any suggestions, thanks in advance!
Seaside Oregon is a great beach town
Within Portland you could visit Powells bookstore (largest independent bookstore), go visit the Chinese garden, or check out some food carts. A little further away you could visit Multnomah falls or try and go on a hike.
Mount St. Helens is over an hour away, but it's pretty cool.
If you are going to the Columbia River Gorge (e.g., for waterfalls and hiking), you can cross over to Washington and hike up Beacon Rock, which is a neat hike and a beautiful view at the top on a relatively clear day.
If you just want to do something in Washington, you could explore downtown Vancouver and the Vancouver waterfront.
Everything else is either, or both, a bit farther away (e.g., the Coast) or closed for the season (e.g., Ape Cave).
Beacon rock is great short hike,, and 14 is a beautiful drive. Cape Horn is a great hike too along that road...you could drive up and the cross bridge back to Oregon and check out Multnomah falls area.
Hood River is cool
Astoria is pretty. It’s about a 2 hour drive though.
Beacon Rock… its a nice drive and hike . There is also a copy of Stonehenge on the columbia same direction but other-side of the river thats pretty cool … I think its a ww1 memorial if memory serves.
Sherrard Point on the Oregon side has astonishing views, it’s a shortish hike from Larch Mountain. Though the road up there might be snow closed.
The Stonehenge replica is kinda unusual.

Cannon beach has a much more beautiful view (and oddly better weather) and is 20 minutes longer of a drive. Less people/tourists too, depending on what you’re looking for.

Adrift Hotel in Longbeach, Wa is a hidden gem
Wahclella falls is a much more fun hike than Multnomah falls, and has way more waterfalls. It's only like 10 minutes farther down 84, check it out
If your going up by St. Helens you could go zip lining or Bungee jumping out at Athol. You can book at bungee.com. Have you ever walked under a volcano you can do that at the ape caves. Check for permits to go.
I went here last time I was in Portland. It was great w good food and I don’t play video games.

Multanomah, bridge of the gods, beacon rock, mt hood for snow adventures. The drive east through the dalles is pretty cool
