What a gorgeous kitty. Looks like a long haired Abyssinian, but I don't even know if that is such a breed. What breed is this?

He's a Somali, which is basically a long haired Abyssinian. Their long coat is due to a genetic mutation.

You can mate two Abyssinians and a somali may be born.
