I’m always glad to see it too. I tried to go to Astronomy on Tap at Guilford hall a couple weeks back and although my wife and I couldn’t get in, I’m rooting for Baltimore residents to go out and enjoy events so I wasn’t upset.

I noticed there were A LOT of people out last night too and it was great to see.

Same. Just wished places stopped closing early and opening later. The streets don’t feel nearly as lively as they used to be.

Everywhere last night was booked til 9 or later. I called at least 6 places.

As somebody that works in the industry the problem is trying to find people that want to work late. I have 13 years in the industry and can get hired anywhere because of this I’m not working somewhere that closes at 2AM anymore. A lot of places that do stay open later usually have higher turnover and sometimes have to close early due to staff shortages.

As someone that used to work in the industry and periodically still do for extra cash in this economy.. I get it. The quality of life as a Resturtant/hospitality worker is much better. But, as a consumer/patron/local/tourist this doesn’t bode well for my quality of life, nor the communities.

I’m new to bmore! Would you recommend all these spots? What spots in general are must visits and for what sort of activities?

Depends what you are interested in. Ottobar, Metro, and Soundstage have lots of punk, metal, indie rock, hip-hop, and dance nights. Creative Alliance has a wider range of performances from international artists to more specific cultural celebrations. Union Craft is a brewery and only does the occasional concert, but they also do family oriented events.

If you want to stay in the loop you can use the Tumblr I run (https://baltshowplace.tumblr.com/) that lists most of the concerts happening in town each month. I also have an Instagram (@baltshowplace) that keeps people up to date on any changes to shows and low ticket warnings.

I've worked the closing hours in Baltimore bars. It's a harsh lifestyle. If businesses want to have more employees working that late, they need to make the compensation worth it.

Sure, I made a lot of cash, but I also had to buy my own health insurance, had zero paid holidays or paid time off, and the earnings were variable depending on the season.

I can work a 9-5 with less cash flow, but be better off financially due to the entire picture of compensation, and that doesn't even touch on the fact that working regular hours with paid vacations is way easier on your body and mind.
