Hi everyone, I moved to Newton area a year ago and have no knowledge about the dentists here. Now my teeth finally decided to not to delay and broke into pieces. I would like to ask if any of you would share/suggest some good personal experiences with dental offices in the area, especially somewhere that won't rip me off because I am still in school. I saw good reviews with Newton Dental group but their office will be closed for another week or so, and I would like a sooner treatment if possible...and I don't mind driving a bit further for a good visit.

I have a basic insurance for college students. TIA!

My best general advice: do not go to any "chain" office like Gentle Dental. I went to Gentle Dental in Allston after a year of not going to the dentist, was told I had 9 cavities, and the dentist recommended I get them (all) filled in the office right away. I told him I wanted a copy of the x-ray sent to my dentist back home, who told me the x-rays were illegible and a dentist could "see" anything he wanted to in them. When I went to my home dentist the following summer, he only saw one worrisome spot that ended up not even turning into a cavity.

My recommendations:

Dr. Spitz (I know) and the whole team at Smile Boston in Brookline were great for me for a while until insurance issues. Very welcoming, informed me of recommended procedures, helped me navigate insurance, and were understanding of my dental anxiety.

Now I go to Brighton Family Dental behind St. Elizabeth's and the team there is also great, and in my insurance network.

Also - Tufts Dental School has a low cost dental service. Many friends and colleagues have used them and been satisfied

Guy, asking for a dentist in newton or Brookline is like asking for a nail salon in quincy

James W. Triant is the man for that area. Very good work. Late appointments.

Though I’m not sure about the insurance implications/ costs, Masterpiece Dental at 441 Stuart Street, 4th floor, Boston is excellent.

Suffolk Dental - I could not recommend them strongly enough. Excellent office staff, dentist, hygienist. Kind, conservative thoughtful. Just wonderful. I have pretty big dental fear. Was in foster care as a kid and the requisite dental visits were nasty. Then, didn't have dental insurance until I was 35 and I didn't have great teeth.

I love Suffolk Dental. They are on Tremont St near Park St so outside of the area you propose but not by much.

In Brookline, I remember Guen near St Mary's stop also good.

Thank you! I spent a whole day researching and realized I have to wait until Monday to have anything scheduled. Dental problems are real...

For Waltham I recommend Dr Damien Meola Smile and Skin Aesthetics. They did all my dental work past year and I am working with them and ortho to do Invisalign. I was pretty scared of dentist before them so they have been really great about dealing with my anxiety and also getting my thru a bunch of things to go thru to get to Invisalign. They bring in an ortho for that which most dentist don’t know better to do, which I also appreciate, anyway, other option in Waltham for you! Good luck!

I see Dr Patel at the Dr Dental in Allston for regular checkups, and also after my molar broke into pieces. I made an emergency appointment and he made me feel a lot less freaked out during the whole process - I hope things go okay for you!

Thank you! It sucks when your teeth got a problem on weekends and no place is open. I will check with them on Monday.

It does :( if there's no pain you should be okay for Monday though. I think you can book appts online over the weekend if you definitely want a spot

Beacon Place Dental in Coolidge corner! I have been seeing Dr Papadopoulos there since 2008. He is incredibly kind and was very patient with my dental phobia when I first started.

Dr. Chen at C&C Dental by Brookline Village is great. Small office, friendly, never tries to tell you there’s more wrong than there actually is.

Way too drill-happy there. Never had so many unnecessary procedures foisted upon my mouth. And the out of pocket expenses were so ridic. When I cancelled out, i owed a bunch more that they hadn’t even billed yet.
