yay!!
This is weird. What resale value is there really for a dog?
Depending on breed a lot. Like multiple thousands of dollars.
Idk why someone steals a terrier mix tho lol
People often kidnap dogs from wealthy neighborhoods specifically looking for rewards after they find the dog “dumped” somewhere
When you say often though…other than lady gaga I’ve never heard of this actually happening. Unless missing dog posters are really kidnapped dog posters and I’ve never seen the update.
Last year in Allston, I ran into my friends mom frantically looking for her dog (a small Yorkie). They were at a park and the last thing she saw was a women petting her dog. She didn’t think anything of it and answered a text. The next thing she knew the dog was gone. When I saw her she had been searching for an hour. I called vets, shelters and the local police station and left my info with them. 5 hours later a women called me saying she found the dog roaming the streets in Watertown and that she picked it up bc it looked lost. I drove her to pick up the dog in Newton and they basically asked her for money for the dogs return. She was so shaken up that she just paid the women, no questions asked but I found the whole thing suspicious.
Newton is sketchy.
I mean how often do you hear about dog kidnappings in general? Its a highly local happening, so unless a celebrity is involved, it’s unlikely to make news
Sure but I don’t think the dog owners who lost their pet would stop and think to contact the media. They’d first call shelters, alert the microchip co, vets office and the police station.
But real question, would the media be interested? Is that something they should do? Is there a line to call?
The pessimist in me thinks the media only picked it up bc it was in beacon hill $$. Would they care if it was a lost dog from Lynn?
Flip side, would a criminal gang find it financially worthwhile to kidnap a dog from Lynn. Regardless, glad the dog is home safe
Sometimes people just take the opportunity to be an asshole.
On a rescue dog like this, likely minimal. Maybe the thieves thought it was a purebreed?
But on a designer or purebreed dog? Pretty large. People will buy puppies / young dogs off craiglists (Example One: https://boston.craigslist.org/sob/for/d/norton-french-bulldog/7598631116.html Example Two: https://boston.craigslist.org/nwb/pet/d/boston-female-mini-poodle-mix-puppy/7601380906.html) and ask minimal questions about where they came from. For someone looking to make a quick $500 - $3,000 it's very easy to grab a dog off the street and then resell it.
Especially this dog??? Probably not a crime related to profit.

If this happened in beacon hill then you should look around for cameras that might have caught the car on video to get the license plate. If you explain what happened to the camera owners, they’ll likely be willing to look through their footage.
I would act fast though because a lot of security systems automatically delete after a short time.
It was a blue Honda Civic. It was on the news tonight.
Oh man, this is heartbreaking. I sometimes can’t even fathom the evil people that are walking this earth. What a real fucking asshole thing to do. I really hope the dog is found safe and the scumbag held responsible.
ugh this makes me so sad i’m really sorry.
Wow! People suck!
One of my biggest fears walking someone’s dog and it being taken outside of them bitting a kid. Hope the owner is able to find the dog.
L dog walker
L humanity
I saw the story on the news and I thought Maura Howley was the dog's name
