I received a paper ticket monthly commuter rail pass in the mail from Wageworks. Wtf is this?! Can the MBTA swap this if I complain? Plastic is really getting scare I guess. $340 a month for a paper ticket. 🤦🏼♀️

That's the MBTA. You cannot use a CharlieCard (which is the official name of the plastic card) on most commuter rail lines because they don't have CharlieCard readers. The only exception is the Fairmount Line which runs a pilot in Zone 1A where a machine on the platform can print a proof-of-payment based on your CharlieCard.

No they make charliecards with the commuter rail pass printed on the other side if you order them online.
They are a lot more durable than the paper tickets, using a commuter rail paper pass can get pretty beat up in a month
