Anyone in Arlington have experience with Astound? I (stupidly) went with Comcast when moving in and have been having loads of issues with it lately so am thinking of switching. I’ve also read about astound going downhill lately so unsure if it’s worth it :/

if available to you, FIOS is the right answer

Last I checked fios isn’t available in my building, just Astound and Comcast. I’m gonna look into it though

Is Astound the rebranded RCN?

Yep, it was bought out by a private equity firm and rebranded, from what I’ve read. I’ve heard it’s been going downhill since then but thinking it might still be better than Comcast

From what I read here is that Comcast will fuck you in value consistently. RCN(Astound) will give you an amazing deal upfront but will kill you with price increases and fees to my understanding.

I have RCN (Astound) and service has been consistent. The only pain is having to threaten cancelation in order to receive their promo pricing for new customers. My bill just increased from $64/mo to $100/mo.

I've had RCN for.. 14 years (fuck I'm old)? Since I was in Somerville, Arlington now. Really never an issue. Been using my same modem the whole time too.

RCN == astound.

RCN is also slightly less shitty of an ISP. You still have to call every 2 years to fix your bill.

I got rid of RCN because once they had you locked in, their customer service was horrific, and performance slowly degraded.

RCN signals went down since the Astound takeover. I eventually got tired of the outages and moved to FiOS.

Where are you in Arlington? Did it say it was available on their site? When I moved to the Heights years ago I was told that it was only Comcast/RCN enabled, then got into the apartment and found a FIOS ONT literally inside the unit lol. So someone clearly had it installed at one point. Contacted Verizon and they were able to wire it up no problem. Been using it without issue since.
