Generally speaking, you can deduct home mortgage interest on the first $750,000 ($375,000 if married filing separately) of indebtedness, which alone can be way more than the standard deduction. The capped SALT deduction only adds to this potentially gigantic itemized deduction. Does that make sense? SALT alone won’t make itemized deductions worth it; it’s SALT plus other deductions, mostly the mortgage-interest deduction.

This. All of these areas are fine (ignore the bonkers comment about homicides). In my mind, the most important thing is to Google Map the walking/train time to the areas you want to visit. I’m biased to Somerville, but a lot also depends on what kind of neighborhood you are looking for.

OP, I agree with everyone else posting here, but just FYI something very similar happened to me…someone mistakenly took my jacket instead of their own from a bar, and so they accidentally took my AirPods home with them. I also could see their address, which was also in a big apartment building. I had confidence that it was a drunken mistake and that the person would return my jacket to the bar, which they did a few days later. I had reported it to the bar, so they knew to call me, and I went and got my jacket and AirPods. Just wanted to give you a positive story.

Just by this response I can see you have the frame of mind (and writing ability) to do very well. You’re definitely on the right path. Reddit and people in general often miss that life is much more shades of gray than black and white. Good luck.
