Genuine question; not complaining.

I'm surprised it didn't pass. I read the official ballot statement for the against side and it seemed tepid at best.

Most of the small packies around me had "yes" paraphernalia, whereas Total Wine clearly was on the "no" side. To me that seemed like the big retailers were worried about losing their customers, which usually signals a win for consumers.

I feel like I missed something here.

Or is it the usual MA liquor laws pearl clutching?

Edit: I appreciate the responses! I see a lot of very good points that I failed to consider. In retrospect, I can see how my assumptions created a different image in my head of this initiative's intention. I'm going to remember this lesson.
