It looks great. So at our current rate of like 4 miles of track every forty years or so, this should only take like half a millennium to complete?

As god-emperor, it would only take me about a week. In real life though, it would take far more than half a millennium. A man can dream though!

As god emperor your plans are not ambitious enough. Take a look at the Seoul subway map for some inspiration, which will be further expanded when the high speed subway (underground bullet trains) lines open.

I see the red line is going for length while the green line is going for girth.

I think it also could use another outer ring.

Starts at forest hills, goes up and hits reservoir, Brighton center/oak square, then up around to alewife, oak grove, and wonderland.

What mode is the Pink Line? It seems to be trying to be a jack-of-all-trades, but I can't see how it would be adequate at more than one.

From Widett Circle to Blue Hill Ave, what you drew would be best as part of a regional rail system, or at least something compatible with the common rail network.

Then it has a peculiar subway in Mattapan.

From Broadway to South Station, it appears to share a right-of-way with a heavy rail rapid transit line (the Red Line).

From South Station to Aquarium, it does god-knows-what.

From Aquarium to Maverick, it appears to share a right-of-way with another heavy rail rapid transit line (the Blue Line)

Then it is routed along a route with curves that could only possibly be adequately served by LRT or bus service.

itd be heavy rail aka red/blue line in this god-emperor scenario, all buried and all with brand new rails. depth would change depending on if it conflicts with other rails, like how its done in new york. in real life this would cost infinity money, but this is a dream.

Difficult-Ad3518 t1_j0iiiek wrote

I understand that this thought exercise in unconstrained by money and resources, but I'd think you should strive to propose something that's actually a worthwhile undertaking (even if completely unrealistic).

You'd be better off having the southern half of the Pink Line be DMU service (like the Rail Vision Alternative 4), EMU service (like the Rail Vision Alternative 5), or if you really want to go balls-to-the-wall EMU service through a North-South Rail Linke (like the Rail Vision Alternative 6). That service would be a much more worthwhile pursuit.

Next project is a proposal on what might actually be built in the next 50 years, given State and Federal outlays likely to be available.

And include commuter and regional rail.North and South Station are still unconnected.

GLX had a billion Federal dollars, which did not go all that far.

the mass ave line 🤤 why not make the yellow line directly replace the 66 bus between Harvard and Nubian? seems like a more logical route given the existing significance of that bus line

A friend lives in Worcester. He can take the commuter line to South Station, but what if he wants to get to Riverside which is a heck of a lot closer?

Create a belt that connects the different color lines with commuter lines.

The more realistic red line extension would be down between route 2.. The land there is already owned by the state and the logical end point would be a massive garage with direct access to 2 and 95.

I can't tell on the map but do you have the commuter lines connected between north and south station? This would be a huge connection for passengers. More than that though it would allow the trains to travel straight through and connects Maine to NYC and beyond.

No. The realistic extension would be under the Minute Man Bikeway, as was originally proposed during the original Red Line Northwest Extension during the 1980s. The Minute Man is owned by the State of MA and was originally used for Rail Transit as the Lexington Branch. As a result, it actually passes through numerous population and commercial centers such as Arlingtons downtown, Arlington Heights, and Lexington's downtown. It can reach 128 as well and there's enough relatively under utilized land around there that could make for a decent park and ride or transit oriented development.

Just have to do the North/South Rail Link for this. It's a costly project ($10B to $20B are the cost estimates) but as you mentioned it unlocks a lot of potential for North/South shore connections. Even just directly connecting the two stations could make transfers way easier, especially for equipment maintenance and allowing for us to share equipment in real time vs having to shuffle equipment overnight via the Grand Junction freight railroad.

Always make sure that there’s a vertical link (like for example at the westernmost ends of the green line) so one doesn’t need to go waaay east to be able to go to that other place west.

The only thing that seems likely is the blue line connector to red. That will probably be a thing in next 10 years. The Union extension to Porter seems possible but maybe 20 years or more. Loop public transportation doesn't see a lot of ridership in most places because people want to go in direct lines to get places.

Folks at Savin Hill def wouldn’t allow for a larger station and would probably get Lynch to nix it or direct it (yellow) to the dilapidated JFK/UMass stop as usual. Also, your red line doesn’t split until some unknown place before Fields Corner when it splits at JFK currently? Reason? Could just turn JFK/UMass into a major intersection moreso than it is and toss the yellow line in there too.

−2

aray25 t1_j0ibdlc wrote

That's where the Red Line splits today. The Braintree branch parallels the Ashmont branch past Savin Hill without stopping.

To respond to your point about opposition from the locals at Savin Hill, on the one hand I feel like I missed an opportunity to have the yellow and dark purple lines meet at JFK. On the other hand though, this will either a) never happen or b) be implemented by a god-emperor who doesn’t care what the locals say.
