It's hard to say these days.
I buy a lot of games from donation places and I am quite grateful for it.
But I also, give a lot consoles away as well. I buy them... clean them up, sometimes hack them/or not... and i build small collections and give them to parents who want their kids to have some games.
On facebook i'm part of a bunch of groups where people who can't afford things for kids for any reason, will sometimes ask for video games, so depending on what I have... I give it to them.
I've given away sega genesis, sega game gear, sega32x, sega cd (no copy protection :) ), Wii's, wii-u's, Xbox's, Xbox360's (kids love the kinect), I've given some computers away too (can easily build little gaming machines these days with used computers).
I'm currently still holding onto quite a lot, but for the moment, I'm planning on making a youtube channel where I play every game I own.... and then after that... I don't know... might donate back to some salvation army and let some other person enjoy the games, or simple make more little give away packs.
I love putting smiles on little kid's faces or parent's who are broke and happy their kids will have some for birthdays or christmas.
I don't care about their market value, games are meant to have fun with, so there is no loss to me. Besides, in the end, it doesn't matter what a game is worth, if no one will buy it. I like the idea of collecting for fun, but I don't like the idea of holding on to them... for no reason, other then..."their value might go up one day".
I've sold a few games here and there when I have too many doubles or tripples from buying game lots... But I sell them like 5$. lol
Looking at ebay prices, some of the games i've sold were worth apparently 100-200-300$ sometimes, which is rediculous... so I simply dont join in on the crazy train of market prices...
But don't recycle anything, for the love of god.

Dude, that's awesome you're going to do it! I hope I come across your channel when you make it.
As others have advised, yeah, that's part of the reason why I want to hold on. Nostalgia and to show them what we had years ago. With how advanced we're getting, I can't imagine what we'll have 20-30 years from now. My only concern is are they going to work on newer TV's.
I wish I could get mine replaced for the damage that I caused to them. That's my concern. They work, but they could work better.

Well, for any type of nostlagia, best thing I can reccomend is patiently wait for MISTER FPGA modules, to have all the consoles you used to play... and get a Everdrive for your respective Catridge Slot based systems.
You get clear picture and sound, can use the original controllers, it's pretty dope.
As for your CD based systems, I would reccomend getting one of those Disc Tray emulation contraptions with the SD card. Then you can at the very least keep your console and it's original controllers.
Also, If you want the best experience and best way to play all your consoles...
I highly suggest you buy this projector... I reccomend it to all my friends.
I bought mine for 200$ from Facebook Market place!

It has all the hooks you will ever need to play all of your retro consoles.
Because it's DLP it handles native analog signals perfectly.. with no input lag.
The lamp lasts forever, especially if only used for gaming. I play my N64 on this bad boy all the time... with the simple RCA cables (Composite) and the image looks Beautifull, because the projector was made this in mind.... it's not a secondary post processing thing, it was built for this.
I have a HDMI HUB for my newer consoles and PC that is hooked up to it (Note: It's 120hz refresh!!!!) and I have a HUB for all my Composite consoles and it even has VGA! Don't ever listen to VGA Haters... trust me when i say it's number one for a projector. I have my Xbox 360 hooked up via the VGA (real original cable... not some adapter) and I run all my consoles in 720p Mode.
A lot of people don't know that the PS3 and Xbox360 generation of consoles actually run better in 720P Mode.
God I love talking about this stuff.... Don't need line doubler... you just need a great DLP projector made from the era of your gaming. Don't buy a 4K or cheap chinese projector either. Plus... the last thing that is great.... is this project is Ultra short throw, so it can be put up against the wall and is not loud (as long as you remember to clean out your filter every couple of months.... especially if you have pets).
