Recommend reading some francophone African literature especially since you don’t have much in that area.

Cool idea - but the dots colour/size ratio in comparison to the rest of the map doesn’t work. It looks like a grey map of the world and you really have to zoom in to see.

Two videogames set in Upper Michigan?

EDIT: Actually, I Googled it; based on the fact that there are two, I'm guessing Portal.

There is one movie dot in Serbia, what could that be?

I think you're right that it looks to much like a blank map, although I feel like if the dot-sizes would increase a lot of parts of the map (like North-eastern US and England) would become to clustered and that there would be no room. I'am open for suggestions to solve this though :)

You have dots placed in some somewhat exotic and obscure places, but have never seen a single bollywood film ever.
Amazing.

Could represent "generic Ireland" seeing that it's the centre of the country, in which case I'd say Fr. Ted. If it was located correctly, it should be in the Atlantic, west of Galway, just past where they dump "the old glow-in-the-dark".

Wild, can’t believe i missed this. Guess it was hinted that the facility was built in an abandoned salt mine. Though according to the wiki, it only mentions upper Michigan and most of salt mines were in the northern part of the lower peninsula, so it was probably actually not in the UP, on top of being a fictional location ;) Thanks for teaching me something nerdy today OP!
