This graph shows the amount of electricity generated and the amount used for two people. It also shows solar declination and average daily temperature. The only natural gas used is for a water heater and a few days a year for heating since electrical heating is mostly used. We have neither a gas or electric dryer.

Data was gathered using the house meter, inverter measurements, and smart plugs. More information here: https://github.com/animatedb/solar.

Graphs were created usingPython with matplotlib.

  • Aug 2018 - 3.24 kW solar installed
  • 1st two years - Generation and main use for heating are mostly opposed - Mar 18, 2020 - Covid allowed both of us to work from home
  • Sep 12, 2020 - Wildfires caused lower solar generation and temperatures
  • Nov 12, 2020 - Replaced space heaters with a 'portable' heat pump
  • Mar 30, 2021 - Purchased an elecric car and used about 10K miles the first year
  • Aug 15, 2021 - Wildfires - Oct 10, 2021
  • Added a two panel ground system of about .6 kW with a ineffective Y&H 1kW inverter
  • Apr 28, 2022 - Purchased and installed Tasmoto on 4 Sonoff electrical monitoring plugs
  • May 25, 2022 - Replaced the inverter with a used Vevor 1.2kW 4 channel inverter

What is the blip in declination in 2022?

Also did you switch to electric heating in 2021? Why did use go up? Was it just colder?

I changed the declination when I got two new panels with a small separate inverter. We got an electric car in about April of 2021,

Funny, the grey (avg. temp) is almost mirror to blue(generation)

That makes some sense since the days are shorter and are generally also cloudier. The sun is also lower over the horizon, which blocks some sunlight from trees especially in morning and evening.

Why is the Usage so bumpy? These are weeks, yes?

Yes they are weeks. Some of the bumps are heating for colder days. Other bumps is because we use the car irregularly.
