This is a visualisation of migration patterns of white stork (Ciconia ciconia) in Europe from 2015 till present. This was made possible using the open-data API from iNaturalist. The gif was made using python (GeoPandas, Matplotlib, Seaborn, pynaturalist, numpy, imageio).

On a side note:

This was the first private project where I used a variety of modern AI transformers. Dall:E for the White Stork image, Code Completion from Github Copilot and ChatGPT for design questions and general questions replacing google almost completely.

What does the Red graph Show?

Sorry if it wasn't clear. It's just the description of the moving big point on the map -> the center of the top 30 latest observations.

They prefer Spain and Germany and avoid France. Beautiful map

Not really, it’s just that there are more iNaturalist users and therefore observations in Spain and Germany than there are in France

I see the Poles and the French aren't using iNaturalist as much. Is there a reason? Also you can see how app usage surged in 2020...
