How on earth does Saudi Arabia have a high HDI. Does it only calculate life expectancies and stuff like that?

randomstuff063 t1_j2vkj0b wrote

My guess is that they’re not including migrant workers.

UpSideRat t1_j2xs0ue wrote

It says Human Development Index

My bet is they dont consider immigrants and slaves

Im not being sarcastic but, I truly think they could do something despicable like that for an index

EclecticKant t1_j2tqphl wrote

Only three factors are included: Their GDP per Capita is good, life expectancy is ok and education seems to be decent. Unfortunately the HDI doesn't consider many important parameters

My guess would be a shit ton of super wealthy people skew the average, I’d be curious to income-inequality adjusted HDI stats for Saudi Arabia

The HDI is a geometric mean, outliers have a smaller impact compared to arithmetic means. Their GDP per Capita is good, life expectancy is ok and education seems to be decent. Unfortunately the HDI doesn't consider many important parameters

Finnick-420 t1_j2wrvua wrote

whats geometric and arithmetric?

2

EclecticKant t1_j2wth5h wrote

The arithmetic mean is the sum of the numbers divided by the number of numbers The geometric mean is the n root of the product of the numbers. For example, if the numbers you want to find the mean of are: 1 10 11 99 The arithmetic mean is 30.25, while the geometric mean is 10.21. The geometric mean is more accurate when the value are a bit skewed (in the example 99 is an outlier, and it brings the arithmetic mean all the way up to 30, which is not very representative of the 4 numbers, the geometric one is more accurate), while the arithmetic mean is the better one when the data is more uniform and independent of each other (the geometric mean is almost always lower)

Saudi is a high-end country (Unless you're a migrant worker). You could reverse the question to why US is there too since not everyone live in the good parts.

Women, LGBTQ and minorities are anyday better off in America than Saudi by miles.

SideReal3 t1_j2wfjnx wrote

It is still crazy to see that people correlate sjw stuff with high development. It is just a cancerous trend of some corrupted western communities.

bukush t1_j2w3ep7 wrote

Of course LGBTQYXZKLERNXAREUMNF are better off in America, as it is an American/European psy-op.
Induced mental illness, IMI would be a better acronym.

The majority of Saudi Arabia works less than 7 hours a week and live off the government. The entire economy is a farce. They have oil and that’s it.

bukush t1_j2xhzum wrote

So what? What is your point? They live good.

When oil is over they will be FUCKED!

Oil isnt going to be over anytime soon, hate to brake it to you.

by 2030 oil will be hurting and SA will have a populace that is worthless.

Just because some middle-manager or an influencer drives an EV , it doesnt take away the fact that basically the whole world runs on oil. And it is not going to dry up any time soon.

Stuff that companies like Spicer are doing is going to be the next big move along with GM and others going all in.

I know, the germans were all in years ago, i have worked with the transition and still i dont see it happening anytime soon. Any client buying these things are just basically beta-testers. None of the current ones are really produced to stay, they are cashing in on a new market with many new happy customers. I see it all as a money grab.

And both individuals and large companies mainly care about this because it gives them tax benefits.

Im not hating though, i see it become better by the day but oil is not going anywhere is my opinion. We will just have both in the end, think airlines and shipping vessels by sea. That is how we get everything these days.

You underestimate the gulf states, development wise they're definitely first world, it's their laws that are still backwardish

bukush t1_j2xiifn wrote

This is my point, im not Saudi but to pretend its not a developed place is just ignorant. And even more funny since half of the complainers are actually allies with Saudi.

Why is not? Here in Saudi Arabia we have well paid jobs, a very good education system, free high quality health care, a fast growing economy, self sufficiency of energy, and the very important thing is all the world depends on us supplying them with energy.

BravaisPearson t1_j2w16u1 wrote

how does the last fact make saudi arabia more developed? why not? because human/woman rights are important to determine how high the human development is in an country. at least 50% of the population are living in a low developed environment...

There are no skid-rows in Saudi, and the healthcare is free. Let it sink in.

AzzamTora t1_j2yyhkm wrote

Health care isn’t free at all here for almost half of its population who are non citizens. Source: I was born and live here sucks to pay every time in return for a shitty health care.

what are skid-rows? translater didnt find a good translation... healthcare is free is a good thing but doesnt change other facts

Can you please prove your 50% with evidence? Talking is much easier than action. While people around the world are struggling with COVID-19 we all here in Saudi Arabia citizens and foreign taking the vaccine for free in an easy electronic way to get vaccine appointments. What does the west give to human rights? Without the energy you can't survive you will find yourself freezing at home, without energy the hospitals that provides health care for poor people, can't run their medical devices. Without energy a school or a university can't receive students. Without energy you can't even post this reply. We don't pretend human rights, we do human rights.

Are you really flexing about the fact that Covid-19 vaccine was being given free of cost for citizens and foreigners in your country? Where else in the world did you see people struggle to get one let alone pay for the pandemic-saving WHO commissioned vaccine? I got bunch of Covid-19 vaccines back when i was in Turkey free of cost and easy online same hour appointment. But guess what, they don’t flex about how they give it out for free and how it’s easily booked for an appointment, only you guys love flexing all shit. Also you say “What does the west give to human rights” didn’t they gave the human world the same vaccine you happen to be flexing about it?

mo_alanazii t1_j30u9bx wrote

you got your vaccine dose in an hour, i got my vaccine in 5 min. Poor people in Africa are struggling to get their vaccine. The same thing in part of south America. We don't flexing anything. We welcome all the world in our country. Always remember you can argue with anyone but the more important "be polite"
