It’s using free human labour to improve its AI results. If enough people ”vote” that an image is a cow in its natural environment, then it knows that the image passes as a cow in its natual environment.
That was always the purpose of reCAPTCHA. The first project was digitizing the New York Times’ archive, which starts in 1851 and consists of more than 13 million articles.
