They use them more as a blanket than a coat. They throw them on over their pads when they are on the sideline. A lot them are very big to account for the players pads, but this one is kind of comically huge.

I desperately want to see an average size guy with just a tshirt and shorts wear one of these coats, I bet you could fit three or four guys in there.
