You can actually get a pretty decent tv in the 250-300 range and they go on sale pretty often nowadays.

Are you being serious? You can get many reasonably good quality HDTVs for $2-250 all day, and even less around the holidays and around the superbowl. It won't be 4K or smart, but it will be a solid display that the average person will think looks outstanding in their home.
