I always see people talking about " x game is really sad and emotional" and they are referring to cutscenes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not discrediting those sorts of things, but it got me thinking.

Was there any moment in gaming that didn't involve a cutscene that made you heavily emotional?

Does “What remains of Edith Finch” count? All the story is told in unique “gameplay” ways but the factory worker got me emotional as I experienced something similar.

If not than Brothers is a good one. Especially during a late swimming section….

Bioshock Infinite takes place entirely in the first person and never has any cutscenes. The whole game is from the main characters perspective and you learn of things at the same time he does, great story telling and world building.
