Because the dams have started releasing the water they were holding back for agriculture use. Farmers don't need so much water and there have been fall rain storms that have made up for some of the drought.
River still looks low though. But at least it is flowing some.

It's all Canada's fault. They hold the water till it becomes a problem then send it down to the next city. By the time it gets to Minnesota it's a biblical flood. Every time.
Then they hit us with the "oh sorry about that there biblical flood eh"

You do realize that the Mississippi River starts in Minnesota, right? It isn’t fed by any Canadian rivers.

Now I taught that weeping willow how to cry
And I showed the clouds how to cover up a clear blue sky
And the tears I cried for that woman, are you gonna flood you big river
And I'm going to sit here till I die

My old science teacher told our class "The Mississippi River is the butthole of the United States." I'm not sure how relevant that is.

The river itself is more like America’s colon. The MR watershed covers about 40 percent of the continental US and parts of Canada. Whatever trash, fertilizer or other agricultural chemicals that go on the ground within the watershed end up flushed down the river. In this metaphor, Port Eads, LA would be the butthole.
