You can be an NBA god and still behave like a 7 year old who made the unbelievable play with their mates.

Looking on a happy Dončić is almost as dopamine inducing as looking at a dog doing the tippy taps or zoomies.

That's his right shoulder. And it's probably cupping therapy. Lots of elite athletes do it. I remember last Olympics you'd see the swimmers with those marks all over their bodies.

I mean I would do the same thing when I somehow get 3 points out of a foul.

I don’t know much about basketball. Anyone mind explaining OP’s title and what has happened to make the basketball player so happy?

The Mavs were down by 2 with 2 seconds left and he had a free throw, which is only worth 1. So he missed it on purpose and got his own rebound to score a 2 pointer and force OT. This is tried fairly often and almost never works.

Try2RememberPassword t1_j1zfzyz wrote

He intentionally missed a free throw in the last few seconds of a game to avoid turning over the ball and then the ball got back to him and he somehow got a bucket to tie the game with one second left, taking the game onto overtime. It was a huge 4D chess move that paid off.

Kng_Wasabi t1_j1zg17f wrote

He just had a monster game, like top 5 of all time. I think this moment was after he managed to tie the game to send it to overtime, which he then won.

He’s a young guy who has the energy of a kid who just loves to play ball, which is where the golden retriever comparison comes from.

lol you should look up the highlights, the last shot is a miracle in how many things had to go their way. He also single handedly scored 9 points in the last 40 seconds which is almost impossible in todays nba.

it may not be a 4d chess move, but the fact that it even worked is what makes it incredable since the other team is suppose to have the positional advantage when foul shots are missed. if i remember correctly, in this instance 3 of the knicks actually tipped the ball before luka got it.

Arinoch t1_j207lvb wrote

We should all be so lucky to experience moments that make us this happy. Luckily Luka plays a game where his supreme successes like this get shared instantly with a giant fan base!

From the original view I thought he was jumping up and down yelling at his teammates to play defense for the final second of the game. This is much cuter.

1

gremdel t1_j20npmv wrote

I think that's what he's trying to do but is too thrilled to do. His brain is shouting "get back on D!" and "OMFG did that just happen?!" at the same time and this is the result.

decolored t1_j20o3r3 wrote

Luca Doncic tied up the game on a free throw attempt by intentionally missing the shot, allowing it to bounce off the back rim and be received again. He then shot the ball again so that it was worth +2 instead of the standard +1 free throw. It was an exceptional moment because they had to tie up the game in about 30 seconds while down 9 AND they managed to win the OT

I did the same thing while watching the infamous Pistons vs. Pacers game/brawl. Legit turned off the game within a minute or so before the fight broke out. ESPN that next morning was beyond unforgiving with the highlights of the madness

Fat_IRL t1_j220opw wrote

The guy also admitted later that instead of to tie the game, he thought he won it. So he was doing his cute lil dance my himself while the rest of his team went to play defense. (There was only 1 second left and he quickly got back on defense too, but this lil moment of joy is so fucking pure and cute how could you ever say something negative)

Fat_IRL t1_j22p6pr wrote

Yeah, I get it but I doubt that tho, he's smarter than that so I think he just had a lil brain fart when he made the basket. Ya know

But really I see him celebrating and I'm like awwww my lil nephew just scored a goal in soccer and I wanna hug his lil self and Luka (the player) is only 23 .. but then he's like 6 7, over 2 meters tall. Whoa buddy.

Like hugging a mastiff. "You're now in control of this hug please don't hurt me". I'm a very large man, it's rare I see anyone my height let alone my general width, but NBA players are laaarge dudes.
