Hi guys, I have multiple headphones at the moment and plan to use only one for my daily driver. Unfortunately most of my headphones don't come with a proper case. I want to know how to store it properly so that the faux leather earpad doesn't peel.
My experiences so far in storing headphones, notes that all headphones are rarely used, I use it 1-2 times and put it back again:
- Cheap chinese headphones (ZNT Soundfit & Cowon E7) in eva case => headband and ear pads peel after 2 years
- Sony MDR 7506 in its original packaging box => earpads peeling after ~ 2 years.
- *AKG Q701 Quincy Jones in its original packaging box => This one I used to listen to it daily, last time I checked (2 years ago) it was still as good as new. Now the velour pad turns brownish and becomes very dirty.
- Audio Technica ATH M50x in its original packaging box => Perfectly fine after few years, as good as new with no pads peel.
- V-moda Crossfade in its eva case => Perfectly fine after a few years, as good as new with no pads peel.
For daily listening right now I am using Soundcore Q20+ and I put it on stand, always wipe my sweat after using it. 6 months using it and the pads and headband are still as good as new.
May I know how you guys store your headphones?

Edit (Added additional question): Do faux leather earpads that these headphone manufacturer used have different quality? From my experiences above, It seems chinese / sub < $100 headphone's earpads wear out faster than the more expensive one...

don't keep it in direct sunlight and openspace to collect dust, otherwise really doesn't matter.
