So basically it was a Roman building that could have handled big purchases, there was a bunch of inflation at the time so they needed more coins for better purchasing power. The coins that were minted later had less silver content so mostly coins of a certain type were kept.

I wonder when we'll be able to buy one of them.

Are there any reputable sites to buy coins like these? It would be very fascinating to own one and imagine the history that could have accompanied it, no matter how lame it might have been.

You would be best served by finding a reputable numismatic dealer in your local area and having a chat with them.

There is a tremendous amount of fraud in the online market.

Ancient coins are pretty easy to get and vary pretty widely in price.

I'm a collector of ancient coins, and the answer is: yes!

VCoins.com or MA-shops.com are marketplaces that have reputable dealers from around the world.

Avoid Ebay. I cannot repeat that enough. If you want to buy a fake or wildly overpriced coin, avoid Ebay. It's literally the worst place to buy an ancient coin if you don't count that guy on the street corner at the tourist site in Turkey.

Check out r/AncientCoins for more information on the hobby. That sub is a pretty chill and knowledgeable group and I've learned a lot from them.

I'm a rare coin dealer, but I specialize in American coins. EBay is terrible for selling anything, to be honest, except for sports cards.

The margin on coins, if you're a reputable dealer, is very slim, unless you're dealing with super high-end stuff, where you can go up or down by a thousand bucks and not bat and I.

Most of my inventory runs in the 20 to $50 range, but I can occasionally sell coins that are worth $100 to $250. Unfortunately, the market's been terrible over the summer. I'm stuck with a bunch of silver coinage that's going to take a while to sell.

There are a lot of coin publications, as well.

Spoiler... It was hyperinflation that caused the hoard to be stashed because the later emperors lowered the content of silver in the coins and more coins had to be used for large transactions six as in a food production villa.
