Yep, waterproof =/= water resistance and even that water resistance will decrease over time as the phone ages.

The SIM unit is probably fried since water + electronics = no good

Go to your carrier store and see what they can do. If they put in a new sim card and jt still doesn't work, it means you would have to use an esim and they'd be able to activate it for you. If the esim doesn't work, you'd have to probably get a new phone

Isn’t eSIM for the iPhone 14, not the 13?

Iphone 13 has an esim too. The 14 is just only esim, but the 13 is both. But it might depend on the region you live in, I live in the US so my information is based from here. If you go into your phone settings and it shows it having an EID number, it's esim compatible (I believe its under general > about but I don't have an iPhone so I can't check atm, I just work with iphones at my job and I've done esim activations on 13s). But, if you have a US model it will have an esim.

Also, depending on your carrier you will have to go in store go activate an esim. I work with at&t and I know customer service won't do esim activations over the phone. Not sure if it's the same with other carriers. If it's prepaid I doubt they'd give you trouble over it, they're pretty lenient.
