Hi all, quick question. My iPhone 13 was stolen some days ago :( I was assured by the staff in the Apple store that the phone is basically unusable and that it’ll probably be sent abroad for parts. However, a friend of mine scoffed and said it can be used using tools like a jailbreak? Does anyone have any knowledge on this? They also told me in the store not to bother erasing the device as it will be untraceable. Would anyone in my situation just go ahead and erase?

Your friend doesn’t really know what they’re talking about.

Activation lock can’t be defeated by anyone but Apple.

It was possible with older iPhones up to around the X. With new updates it’s become harder, and new phones have made it impossible (for now).

OP has an iPhone 13, so my statement stands.

I know this is all anecdotal but a friend told me he was able to find someone in NY to access his brother’s iPhone after his brother died. I’m looking to get my son’s iPhone unlocked. Any help would be appreciated.

When my wife’s 8 Plus got stolen, I marked it as stolen, and locked it. What that’ll do, is if someone attempts to connect it, even using the main board in another device, it’ll make the main board useless.

Wiping the device remotely removes the iCloud lock
